School-Based Activities

This programme will adopt a gendered approach to empower both boys and girls to be change agents in ending child marriage and Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs). The programme is working closely with the Bureau of Education at all levels to plan and build the capacity of existing school clubs, focusing on gender, HTPs, reproductive health, and mini media. Capacity building will include training for teachers and peer facilitators in participatory methodology, preparing resources, a schools’ club manual, and providing equipment for mini media clubs. With the support of their teachers, the peer educators will facilitate debates and discussions about the rights and responsibilities of girls and boys, gender equality and issues of child marriage. Club members will develop techniques and be empowered to disseminate their messages either directly to their families and communities or through mini media productions.
